SPC - up to the castle

My camera has been stolen. At the ripe old age of three it was really past its prime, if indeed it ever had a period that could be described in such grandiose terms. But it was still a camera, and to say I'm feeling grumpy to find myself at the mercy of the primitive technology offered by my mobile phone is an understatement. How am I supposed to be able to create self-portrait masterpieces with a Sony Ericsson?

But I'm not the sort of person to give up easily. So after some trial and error, most of which involved figuring out which shutter sound would be least offensive (the option "silent" is curiously absent from the long list of absurd choices), I set off to the nearby town of Lewes, home of Lewes Castle. And to my surprise I realised that despite the "camera's" countless weaknesses, the results were not altogether bad. It even has a self timer!

So here I am walking up towards the castle (which was closed), wondering what type of camera to buy to replace the old Konica-Minolta... does anyone have any suggestions?

I like this self-portrait. I inherited a Nikon coolpix and am enjoying the photos I can take with it, but if I could, I would get a camera with a bigger optical zoom, the one I have is only 3x.

Nice picture with a phone camera. Must be a nice phone.

I am just an amateur with my camera which is just a Cyber Shot Sony. Also 3 years old.

I agree on the photo--pretty impressive, especially for a measly phone ;) Sorry about the camera, though. I bought an Acer that I love, but it's nothing fancy (I spent about 200 euros). Best of luck in your search :)

How in the world did you get such a fabulous foto with the mobile? I didn't know the quality was even that good. It turned out really nice.
I pictured you with dark hair. Isn't strange how we can conjure up and image without actually meeting someone.
Well done.
As for cams, I like Canon or Nikon.

I love this picture.

As for the camera - Faith broke my Canon (don't tell... I took the blame for her.. shhhhhhh). I replaced it after much research with the Canon Rebel XTI and I really love it. I'm already feeming for a new lens.

That sucks about your camera. It's amazing what a cameraphone can do however. Nice shot!

Sorry to hear about your camera, what an amazing shot for phone camera though!
Fujifilm FinePix S5 was highly recommended by my photographer friend, when I was having my "if I had the money" dream out loud while visiting his studio, and I do trust his opinion.

I love the picture. Pretty snazzy for phone cam. I would suggest buying a Canon. However much you can afford or however high tech there is a good model out there. I carry a older Canon powershot in my purse and a d20 in my camera bag. I work at a newspaper and across the board most in this industry would give Canon the thumbs up.

I love this shot and like everyone else can't believe you got it with a phone - amazing.

Your banner is fab, you look fab, and I need a new camera, too. So do let us know what you finally decide to get!

Err...I can DEFINITELY say my phone doesn't take pics like THAT! Wow!

If you're looking for a point-and-shoot camera, I like the Canon Powershot series.

That's a fab photo!

I love my Panasonic Lumix FZ7. More options than a pocket camera but not nearly as much $$ as a DSLR.

This is beautiful. Makes me want to travel...

I use a Canon Rebel and am in love with it.

I look forward to exploring your blog!

I need a new one too. I dropped mine (actually, it didn't belong to me) and the zoom is now buggered.

by the way, I have had a picture of me taken in that very spot not that long ago. (in fact, it was the day of the factory fire)
